AOL hit by IM virus!!

AOL’s instant messaging service has been hit by a virus which downloads spyware onto computers via a special website.
The virus spreads via messages on AOL’s AIM software, either saying HILARIOUS!!! Or see thing!!!, with a URL. Clicking on the link takes the user to a web page that attempts to download a Trojan onto the computer using patchable flaws in the browser.

“We have seen several versions of the URL,� said web monitor Websense, which issued an alert about the virus.
“Some are up and some have been taken down. All have been hosted on personal web pages at ISPs, have had the extension of ‘.com’, prefixed by ‘~username’, and either ‘image’ or ‘pic’, followed by a number and extension.�

Once installed, the Trojan then modifies several registry items, adds a browser helper object, and installs several pieces of spyware. It also connects to more than 10 different websites to download and install other Trojan Horses and pieces of spyware.
AOL has become a regular target in recent months. Last month it was hit with a phishing scam, although the company claims user information was stolen.

Wow ive noticed more virus traffic on AIM. I say we all move to MSN lol. Avoid the spread.

I also at one point caught one of these virus's and it was not a good time. It took control of my blist and began closing and opening different sections and then began mass spamming everyone on my blist that was active.

Oldly when ppl get it themselves youll find ppl who have been hanging onto your screen name but avoiding you.

yeah but i use msn alot, but there is a spyware program goin around msn and my phone has been infected, (i use mobile messenger)

heh....i got hit by it but bitdefender took care of it in a jiffy, the IM came froma a good friend so i clicked it and was like this aught to be good then i was like WACK! BAM BIFF POW!!! im dead

msn isn't that much better than AIM is. theres plenty of IM viruses over MSN which were probably edited to work with AIM. The MSN IM virus was out long before the AIM one has so you get thinking..

Funniest virus on a mobil ive heard of was the Brick virus which infects the Psp's. lol named brick virus cause once its infected its about as usefull as a brick.

Wow damn near can be a virus on anything these days.

I always wondered why. my favorite was the attack on microsoft when the virus would infect your computer and continuesly ping their server.

And now you cant ping their server..... They got tired of it

haha, my friend paid 60 bux to get a code from microsoft to fix it. they said the code was usable only once and his cousins used the same one and it fixed it

Its a program that allows you to be on Aim/msn/yahoo/isq/mirc and a bunch more.. its a very good program.. cuts down 5 programs running to 1. :) if you want it send me a pm or just IM me ;)

Anyone remember AOL 1-3, those were the fun days to hack/fuck with AOL as a company, could shut em down for a weekend and they were so dumb they couldn't do anything about it legally at that point.

there has been very heavy email viruses too because my ISP scans my emails first before they send it to me.

I get emails where my IP is logged on 30 illegal sites and BS. Its so funny after i read it, the email is a virus haha

Aim and Msn both have great qualities... ALso I did recieve this AIM virus at 1 point.. My friend said, "Check out this link.. www.wtfnoob.com" (w/e) and i opened it lol... then it started auto-im'ing people with the same thing that I had already gotten.... All I/you would need to do is uninstall/resinstall aim then run a spyware/virus/trojan scanner and you should be set.. Thats what I did and now im problem free..(Like Jared from Subway, what kind of fat loser gets famous for eating subs everyday... (I do eat subs all the time)..He stole my dream .. get famous off of eating subs..wtf.. subs ftw)
