Terrell Owens to the Jets? Not likely, but not impossible.

The Jets would consider taking a chance on the notorious receiver next season if the price were right, according to a person with knowledge of the team's thinking. That person estimated the chances of Owens suiting up for the Jets at "15 percent." Don't hold your breath.

Owens, banished by the Eagles for boorish behavior, will be 32 next season. The Jets will be dismantling their offense in the offseason, and they'll have many more pressing needs than an aging receiver who is among the most disruptive locker room forces in the NFL. Among the obvious needs: quarterback, running back, offensive tackle and perhaps center.

Although the Jets are estimated to be at least $15 million over the 2006 salary cap, there will be plenty of places to find room. For one, early indications are that cornerback Ty Law, due to receive an $11-million option bonus in March, will not be back.

The only realistic scenario that would make Owens a Jet would be a one-year deal or a contract similar to Law's - a multiyear deal on paper only. Chances are the Jets will find better things to do with their paper - and money.
