Yes I walked out of Sam's Club after being bitched at by a manager. I am currently searching for a job that is in the field I want. I'm looking for a job as a programmer / dba / IT support. I am certified in tutoring computer students now as well. Anyone have any suggestions for me. I've never really worked in the field before (other than the Supplemental Instructor/tutor job that i'm doing at the college) Any ideas. Thanks for any help. Me need a job lol.

Im thinking that posting a resume with your full name address and phone number on a public forum is one thing that needs to be changed ASAP :) remove that infor and then post it for opinins.

I have been a manager/supervisor at a few companies in which I did the hiring/firing. Here are a few things that I would be looking at on your resume:

Objective My goal is to be employed at a well known company as a programmer.

Maybe change that to something a bit more professional such as: "I am actively seeking employment with a well established company. My position of choice would be as a programmer." This would make you appear open to entry level positions as well as long as its not with a new smaller company. Using the phrase "well known" makes you seem conceited, as if you would only work for a FOrtune 500 company, and since you have yet to obtain your Associates Degree, that does seem a little premature.

Education June 2004 - Present Palm Beach Community College WPB, FL
Computer Programming Major
* I am in my last 2 semesters working towards my Associates Degree.
* Afterwards I plan to move on to FAU to pursue my Bachelors.

I would not use abreviations, change FAU to full title of school. This shows respect to the school and lets the prospective employer know that you wont be looking for shortcuts all the time

Interests and activities I am interested in every aspect of computers. Since I was 10 years old they have fascinated me and it is my goal to understand everything about them both hardware and software.

List Community activities here instead of a seperate section, try to keep resumes short and precise. If its not something that you are currently involved in, such as: "I have a special interest in educating our youth and I look forward to working with various community foundations in offering my services.

This lets prospective employers know that you are not only concerned with yourself but are also concerned with those around you...shows team player skills and an unselfishness about you in one sentance.

Hobbies I have been a hobby programmer for several years working on small games and applications in C/C++, Java, PHP, MYSQL, HTML/CSS, and Javascript.

Again, try to list something that involves something other than the job that you are applying for. This to me, as a prospective employer, would tell me that you have no life outsode of computers and that you have a greater potential to burn out quickly if you spend all day programming and then go home and do it for fun. Try to list at least one thing that is completely unrelated to the job that you are applying for so that they can see that you take time for yourself to releive stress. This is very important to employers

Within the entire body of the resume, when you are listing skills, edication and experience, try not to use "I am" only use this when you are actually suppose to be speaking about yourself such as with hobbies, activities, etc... for example, for Accreditations and licenses:

Certification: IT Tutor by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) - list year of certification here

Always put the abbreviation in parenthesis, not the legal title.

Overall its a good resume. Hope my tips help! :)

What a basic looking resume for someone who should be VERY computer savvy. You definitely need to look up some tips for writing resumes before handing that thing off to a company you really want to go to. Giving that a first look .. it's doesn't stand out too much.

SO if everything goes well I should have a job ( from my experience they only interview you if their interested) Thank you panz for the very detailed problems of my resume I will make the changes. I didn't want to get too specific because I wanted to keep it short and sweet. Thanks for all the responses I appreciate it.

I had the interview today. It went great. At the end of the interview he said that I pretty much have the job, but said he had to ok it with the boss. Also after that he said if i have any friends in the area who knew some programming to send them his way. Sounds good eh?
