My portable workstation cost about 1.4k from dell outlet and is probably better than half of people's computers here lol.

Yea I realized that, but now that I look at it there are some affordable monthly ones like the one for 2999 is like 80 a month. Of coarse the interest is high, but atleast I won't have to worry about upgrading.

Though I'd mention you get the full 1 year warranty on all of dell outlet's refurbished computers. As for what your going to be using your laptop for, paying 3 grand for 1 computer would be rather stupid. The prices go down on computer so fast it would be thrown away money. Unless you needed to render on your laptop, you wouldn't need a great one anyways. Most laptops won't run some of the higher end games on high end settings basically because the micro-processor technology has yet to be effective as a desktop's. If you would be rendering graphics and such, a crappy 500$ desktop would probably perform even better anyways.

3 year warranty on it, but I won't be getting it until the end of may. I'm going to be majoring in computer engineering.

Just because you use a computer doesn't mean u necessarily know about about them. I drive a car but I don't fix it when it breaks down...
