Dragonforce sucks

"The sound. Dragonforce tries to mix the energy of speed metal with video games sounds. Let's face it, it sucks. The guitar sound is just terrible, it conveys absolutely no power whatsoever. Since the drummer sounds like he's trying to dig a tunnel, the guitars end up sounding even feebler. As if it were not enough, Herman Li and Sam Totman decided to remove every aspect in their playing that could give consistency to any solo they do : no bends, not a note longer than half a second, no slides, no double stops, even their artificial harmonics sound like glitches, and of course NO MELODY (which sounds obvious, since speed and melody are not really compatible, as we'll see next week). Any Yngwie Malmsteen or George Lynch alone owns both players of Dragonforce. Period.

If you're a big fan of Dragonforce, you probably suck at guitar playing, so grow up. Playing the guitar is not "being able to move one's fingers as fast as possible on the fretboard". Any monkey with a guitar and a metronome can eventually achieve that. Playing the guitar is something different. That you don't know yet."

Alexi From bodom several years ago old song and he has progressed a lot in his techniqe and many other aspects of his guitar playing. A truely good guitar player can play more than one genre but play anything from Classical to Death Metal.

^^ is absolutely TERRIBLE. Saying he is better than dragonforce is absolutely ridiculous and stupid.

While I like dragonforce, playing as fast as they do is extremely hard. If you can;t play like that, please don't bitch. Now, do i think they're the best? No, but they're good, and people like them, they're making more money than you probably ever will :)

Also, d2 is almost 10 years old, I'd find a new hobby, maybe you should pick up guitar and show us your "skills"

Buckethead is awsome and that was a quote of another site, taken because well... if you havent noticed i suck at thinking up paragraphs. What do lyrics have to do with guitarists? Alexi cant sing worth shit if u call it singing... more screeching. And as for the solos he incorparates a lot more than acouple taps and some tremolo picking. bends, hammer ons / pull offs, wammy all that stuff and thats A LOT more than Herman Li and Sam Totman can say.

k time for me to step in

i've been playing for guitar for about two years and for as short as i've been playing i do like dragonforce's music. but maiden i know exactly what you mean. their music is very plain, they only play extremely fast notes and don't really do many bends or anything other then straight scales as fast as possible

Children of Bodom is my favorite band of all time. I can play almost all of their songs (I haven't learned Lake Bodom because i don't feel like tuning my guitar down another half step after i just dropped it a whole).

Yngwie Malmsteen is also excellent at guitar, personally i think he's probably the best guitarist in the world in terms of style, technique, speed and range of music.

And Dragonforce may just play really fast, and not do much of anything else, but it does sound pretty good too. And they know how to play their instruments

By no means did I say DragonForce's guitarist is incredible and the best ever, he's mediocre, does that mean the band as a whole sucks? Hell no. Please get out of your "guitar makes a band" world, and broaden your horizons. Personally, I'm not a fan of Blink 182, but Travis Barker is AMAZING, one of the most talented drummers I've seen. I didn't think he was that good until I watched the drummer in my band play some of his stuff.

I've been playing guitar for 5 years now, and a lot of what DragonForce's guitarist does is tapping and easy stuff, but that still doesn't make the band suck. As a whole, DragonForce is a huge commerical success, so you can have your own oppinions, but mass media has their own :D

JaGe Lee Harvey i respect that u like bodom but saying you can playu all of their songs except for lake bodom is wrong, because u dont want to tune into drop C (maybe because u dont have a string gage thick enough to handle it?) there are a lot of other songs you cant play like sixpounder, trashed lost and strungout, are you dead yet and many many more. I imagine there is some ways you can substitute the drop C with D standard but wont sound quite the same works great for when ur just messing around thou :).

There is more to guitar than trying to play as fast as possible as the example from before give a munkey a metronome and a guitar and it will eventually be able to play extremely fast, but techniqe and rythm is a whole other story

Grow up kid. Fact is, most guitarists are what you would dub "sloppy" and they aren't nearly as fast as Herman Li. Hell look at fuckin Hendrix, there are more then plenty ocassions of his live shit that is just absolutely terrible. The guitarist even I consider the best, Lindsay Buckingham, does rather sloppy picking in some songs and can't keep a beat worth shit.

No one is a perfect guitarist, and instead of pointing out things he doesn't do right or can't do; lets look at the shit he does and can do, and does it quite well.
