Okay, so I am taking Government online and we have discussion boards we hafta participate in. BS in my opinion but no point in arguing something that won't be changed. So the following question was posted:


"Martin Luther King wrote "I have a dream that my four little childern will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

Has America actualized this dream of Dr. King? Give examples to support your reasoning. "

I gave this response (spoiler to save space):


For those of you who have seen the Boondocks before, they portray my opinion (albeit in a slightly less considerate way) about this subject.

It is hard to say exactly what MLK's dream was or what he had in mind. When it comes to portraying a thought, some of its potential and meaning is lost in articulation. That being said MLK probably had a lot more in mind as to the transition of his dream than he presented.

His dream was for every person to be judged and created equal from first impression (at least that is my interpretation of his opinion) and we certainly do not have a society like that. As mentioned in earlier threads, stereotypes are ever present in our society and they further limit equal treatment of each other. Part of it is for those believing the stereotypes (I.E. the business man who hugs the opposite side of the sidewalk slightly more when a minority passes him. But I think a vast majority is to do with the minorities themselves. This is a VERY VERY touchy subject and I apologize if I offend anyone with my expressions because that is certainly not my intention.

Stereotypes are created out of fear. Xenophobic social classes and sects begin classifying people in stereotypical situations and actions. However, they are perpetuated and considered truthful because those who are stereotyped act and portray those stereotypes because they are not reinforced otherwise. It is no secret that African-American people are seen as the more delinquent of the other races in our society. This stereotype was formed by racist and fearful aristocrats and WASPs to further subjugate the race. This stereotype has held truthful because African Americans continually repeat actions and behaviors that enforce the stereotype. The more that display it as true, the further ingrained the stereotype is in their race's nature, the more likely it is to be taught to the next generation, and so the cycle continues and expands.

The KKK is a horrible sect of people expressing themselves; however, I view the NAACP as just as bad, if not worse, then the KKK. Several decades ago that of course would not be true since the KKK was notorious for lashing out violently at any and every minority group (not just races). Their ability to get away with such prejudice behavior has been severely limited and thus a hate crime is rare in our society. Now back to the original statement, the NAACP promotes horrid stereotypes and asinine behavior. They label any and every confrontation between two different races a hate crime and automatically side with the minority. They jump on any form of negative expression of opinion and exercise unconstitutional methods of punishing the speaker. That along with many other things perpetuates the ever deepening hole of stereotypical behavior and racism.

With that, I believe we have reached a judicial milestone of reaching MLK's dream. On an executive and judicial level MLK's dream has been made but not on a social level.

I again hope I offended no one with this post and if you portrayed this thread as me degrading other races then I mis-articulated my point. I am simply trying to point out the inconspicuous

The next evening, I get an email from my teacher (nothing threatening or anything) say that I should try not to be so offensive with my responses.

Okay, now in my opinion, that is complete bullshit and reinforces stupid immaturity. This is a college lvl class ffs and if a person can't be completely honest with rational justification without worrying of offending someone who takes an irrational spin on your statement, then that person should not be in college. I believe whole-heartedly what I said is the truth and I am in no way a racist in the least. Hell my first girlfriend was half Puerto-Rican, half Black. So I want your mature, honest opinion (Convict yours especially).

that was very well written and its all completely true, if they can't handle the facts, then they don't need to look at it.

alot of black people in my school slack off and dont do their work and cause alot of fights and noise in the halls. they speak (i dont know what it is, but its not english) and expect us to understand what they're saying because they don't feel like pronouncing things correctly. they enforce all these stereotypes, but yet when we bring them up, we're immediately labeled as being racist. but i haven't seen anything more racist than calling us racist for bringing up true fact about another race.

YES it is true that some black people don't have jobs, are lazy and have big lips but im sure that if i said that in a school setting i would be arrested and fined, and if any black kids found out, i would probably be dead.

now on the topic of the NAACP, did you know that one black kid was killed during the Columbine massacre, and the NAACP tried to label the whole thing as a hate crime towards blacks? are you fucking serious? 14 people died, one of which just happened to be black, and the NAACP thinks that the whole thing was organized just to kill that one black kid. how fucking ignorant can you possibly be?

as far as im concerned, if people want to be ignorant, let them be ignorant, its a free country, but your teacher telling you to be less offensive in terms of that response, is completely ludicrous, because the last time i checked, it says in the bill of rights, first amendment, that we have the power of free speech.

You can be the whitest kid in america but if you dress with your pants hanging off your ass, swing your arms so low your knuckles just about touch the floor, talk with broken english, and present yourself like a hoodlem you will be labled a Thug or low life. Now that is regardless of color.

If I saw a black 18 year old walking down the road on one side and a white 18 year old walking down the road on the other said I can honestly say I wouldnt go out of my way to avoid either. The threat of violence/theft/crime is definitely present no matter the color of the skin.

I do however feel the NAACP and other groups are counter productive toward their equality goal when they offer "black only Programs" and other things that continue to draw a line in the sand between colors.

I can honestly say I equally hate people. Their race does not come into effect. IF ANYTHING I am more critical of my own race. Uncle Tom I may be but when I see a kid from a good family in a good area dressed like a thug, talking gibberish, walking like he has a heavy load on his back I get pretty pissed off.

I was comparing current day KKK and NAACP. That is why I made that statement that they are by no means as bad as the KKK was in the past but they cannot get away with all they did back 100 yrs or so. Nowadays, there are no Black People being hung, lynched, or beaten. The only thing the KKK does is rally, they themselves have not committed a hate crime to another human for the longest time. Current day NAACP with current day KKK are equal with promoting racism and stereotypes.

If you didn't get that interpretation from that section of my statement, then I disarticulated myself and I then see my fault. If however, you do get that statement and do not agree, then I do not feel at fault in the least.

Retarded discussion imo, race shouldnt matter no matter how you think about it other than the fact of identification. I.E. White male running from the police or black male running from the police or asian female running from the police or mexican running from the police.

I know some of this no one even mentioned, but when I see something about a race and someone says, "well you said white person what about blacks blah blah blah" gets me kinda mad cause I don't think society should be this way because we'll, its retarded in the face that people are still saying things like this as either a crutch/they actually feel this way which they would be sadly mistaken, i don't really know anyone that's actually racist so eh.

You missed my point. Boyle said he is critical of his own race rather than other ones. He mentions a kid from a well off family. I think it is implied from previous context that it is a white kid, but yes technically he didn't say white. Either or my point was that everyone assumes that everyone is a poser or have predispositions about them before they even hear then speak.

And yes, it is a stupid discussion Richie and it should be the way you said, but the fact is it is not. And to improve to a point where maybe it will be some day, we need to confront it. You can't face an invisible enemy anymore than you can solve an unidentified problem. The fact is, I truly believe everything I said was objectively justifiable and true which is why I posted this. My teacher is a softspoken, avoiding confrontation kind of person; which is fine and dandy. But you can't post a fuckin question like that and not expect EVERYONE to lie and say that everything is peachy and the world is a peaceful place. I am not a product of my environment I have too strong of a sense of being to be a follower but many people are. I was born and raised in the bronx but I am far from a thug or a gangster. Nor have I ever tried to emulate one. Ive fought people of all races and when it comes down to it point blank id rather fight a black kid when I was growing up. They have a stronger sense of pride and as long as its in front of people its a straight up 1 on 1. Your balls wont be grabbed, your hair wont be pulled, your skin wont be bit into. Because thats not the thug way. They would be insulted and made fun of. Plus most are like a fish out of water on the ground : P

I truly feel were at the point in life that there is no set line of how a race acts. I know what the definition of "acting white" "acting black" and "whitest Black guy" are. For some reason people in good areas want to emulate what they see in the harder areas to live.

When I moved to PA from NY I was amazed how many wanna be thugs were sporting their Blue and their Red as if they were bloods, or crips. I looked out my window and saw real thugs sporting their colors..... not a bunch of little kids running around in polo's different colors trying to make a gang.
