Dunno if anyones heard, but Darkfall, a mmo, is supposedly comin out soon. It's being developed by a buncha old UO players, and they based in Greece. The games been in development for about 8 years now, first 4-5 years were with a 30 man team. Aventurine is the name of the company, and they are hosting some big electronic sports event in Athens this year (can't remember the name of the event). Anyway, now to the good stuff. Beta was just announced less than a month ago (not for the first time, though), and they are selecting individuals based on computer specs. www.darkfallonline.com
The game is ffa, full loot, open pvp, meaning there are no safe zones. Once you get thru the tut, everything is fair game. If you die, your assailant can lewt EVERYTHING you have on you atm.
There are no definite classes, though prestiges have been talked about and may be added in the future. But you start basically with a full pool of skills. Some skills are prereqs for others, and some skills affect other skills (wearing heavy armor hinders spellcasting for example). But for the most part, you can basically make your char however u want. Skill levels go from 1-100, the more you use, the higher it gets. If you don't use your skill, it slowly decays. At 100, you get to use a huge version of the skill.
The world was handcrafted by the team. There was no automation done with the landscape/natural formations. It has been boasted to be the biggest piece of land made in a video game by a factor of 10, back in 2007. I think I read that 98% of the world is accessible to travel. Portal spells get you places faster.
The main point to the game is land and resource control. A clan can build a city (or a number of cities, not sure) in preset locations. You cant build wherever, but the devs say that there is plenty of spaces to build. Mostly, building locations have been strategically placed.
Theres naval warfare with shipbuilding, mounted combat.
All items that are in the game can be crafted by players. And there is not much info about the crafting system, as the devs want it to be a surprise. Crafting skills are separate from 'combat' skills.
Oh I think i forgot to mention that there is no auto targetting. The game is in fps mode. Meleers can switch to a narrow 3rd person view, but ranged is first person view. Shield blocks are done manually, and swingin and shootin is done manually.
There is no invisible stealth system. The 'rogue' must use skills, the environment, and colored gear to be stealthy. Some skills for rogues will be something like a skill that will reduce the sound you make, increased damage to the back of a foe, etc.
blah blah blah, this got longer than I thought.

They say you don't have to be a hardcore gamer to succeed in DF, and just figured I might make this info available to anyone who didn't know.
